Game Day - Summer League Edition: Pacers (0-2) @ Suns (0-1), Tues 7/16/24

Post by Superbone »

Time: 1:00 pm AZ (1:00 pm PT/4:00 pm ET)
Place: Pavilion, Las Vegas, NV
TV: ESPNU

Let's hope to see better offensive execution today although that may not be possible with this personnel. I hope to see our rookies take another step or at least play solid basketball.

Go Suns!!!

Thanks for making the thread, 'Bone. Did you know, you have the #1 most posts of any user on phx-suns.net, with 34958? Second is Split T with 26803, and I'm third with 22497. Your ~ 35k post record may never be touched until I write an AI bot to spam up the General section faster than you can delete the messages.

Looks like they didn't exactly emphasize offense when they filled out the summer roster.

Anyone watching? I missed game 1, but we look good in this one. Quinndary Westherspoon is balling…defense is creating a lot of opportunities.

I'm in the 2nd quarter. This Weatherspoon is really turning it on. Oso was very impressive in the first quarter. Did a little bit of everything. Alley oop one handed catch and slam, rebounding and boxing out, made a perfect backdoor pass for a layup.

Some good stuff from Oso in this one. Dunn is special on defense but the offense is hard to watch.

Once again Oso looks like NBA talent, Dunn does not

His defense does…offensively I will need to see him in the role he’ll play in the nba. They had him attacking off the dribble in this one and I don’t think we’ll see him do that this year at all. Hasn’t made a 3 yet though…form doesn’t look bad…just not going in. Would be nice to see him play with good offensive players.

I just don't see a basketball player there so far. Happy to be proven otherwise, but thus far he doesn't pass the eye test and usually I've been right on that when someone just not seen to have a feel for the game or it is apparent right away even if the skills may just need to be developed (Chriss, Bender, etc)

Yeah, I am concerned about his offense. Today he was 2-9 and 0-4 from 3. Didn't look comfortable on offense. Hid defense I'm not worried about at all but as we know, you have to be at least decent on the offensive side of the ball as to not be a drag on your team's offense.

This, I know it's not ideal to have a total zero on the court offensively, but we did it with Okogie, Dunn will probably be much of the same but a far better defensive tool because of his size.

I think Dunn’s rushing his shot a bit and clearly isn’t confident - it looks as much mental as mechanical (hoping it goes in rather than expecting it). In some ways that is harder to fox than a bit of a kink in the action.
He is a good cutter and hopefully the Suns can be better at finding cutters than last season. Okogie is also a good cutter and finding him or Dunn on a back door cut every so often is a way for them to score a little and potentially keep them on the floor a bit longer.

Okogie isn't a playable piece either, so comparing him to all these offensive zeros doesn't help his case for a future in the league unless he can figure his shit out offensively
