That's cool. I've always liked him. At least as a commentator.

Oh wow, interesting. Seems like a smart guy from when I've heard him do interviews and commentary.

There’s a difference between being a good shooter and a good shooting coach.

Brent Barry was always such a smart player and he was a guy who could have fun on the court, too. 6 years in the Spurs front office tells me he's smart off the court. Hopefully, he can bring some of the Spurs ability to spot talent and develop young players.

Plus if any Suns player dies on the court, Bones Barry can run out and say, "He's dead, Jim."

Talking out of my ass a bit but I am a tad concerned about Xs and Os prep with the staff. Chaisson Allen was a head coach in the GLeague but has more of a player development background. Same with Chad Forcier and Legarza, who were player development guys under Bud previously. Hopkins has a strong Xs and Os background but is coming from the college game and Barry's never been an assistant before. Last season Book seemed bothered by the lack of attention to detail so I hope that's not a theme again this year.

Fair question, but isn't Bud himself a good Xs and Os guy?

Yea but you need a couple of assistants who know the entire league's Xs and Os by heart, calling out plays, making adjustments and prepping the team in walk thrus. The head coach isn't necessarily doing all that. I'm sure these guys are very smart and have a lot of experience, so we'll have to see how prepared the team looks.

I liked Monty's philosophy of adding recently retired players, specifically point guards, who were high IQ Xs and Os guys and knew opposing systems and players inside and out.

My confidence in Bud is based entirely on his ECF run with Atlanta back in 2016ish. The leading scorers on that team were Jeff Teague and Paul Milsap. That teams success was mostly due to exceptional coaching that got the absolute most out of the team. I'm think we will be fine on the Xs and Os.

Well four of Bud's assistants those years were Taylor Jenkins, Kenny Atkinson, Charles Lee and Darvin Ham. That's a pretty strong staff behind him.

Suns traded Roddy for EJ Liddell, small PF for bigger but still small PF. Welp.

At least we're a bit bigger and kind of fill a need. Wasn't crazy about Liddell when he came out in the draft but decent size and length at 6-7 235lbs. Good player to take a flyer on, especially replacing Roddy on the roster who had no use here.

7’0 wingspan…he blocked some shots in college and the g-league…shot a little in college, but didn’t shoot well in the g league last year.
