Could the Suns now trade Beal to Miami for Butler?
Beal is redundant with Herro, would probably muddy it up for them.

I’m not completely opposed to trading Beal, but I think he’d be a hell of a weapon off the bench.

Probably the most expensive bench player in history, but OK.

Wow. I can't believe we got Tyus Jones. This is a huge signing. Potentially changes our whole rotation and approach. How often can you get a potential starting PG for peanuts like this?

I am kind of shocked they basically promised him the starting PG spot. I assume they have Bud's OK to do that? Please? And who goes to the bench? Grayson Allen, who just resigned at big money expecting to start?

I really wish we would bring Beal off the bench. He would be awesome as our main scorer against other teams' benches and make us always have 2 of the big 3 on the court at all times. But maybe it's too insulting to him, or too embarrassing to do that with a guy making 50 million?

Still, Beal off the bench is what I'd do.

I don't think this happens if offensive donut Rank Vogel was still here.

Fuck yes. For $50M/yr, he can take the “insult.”

Yes…but you’d need to add a lot more salary. Hunter and Capela?
I would probably do that.
I would readily ditch Beal for a rim running 5 and good sized wing, but I think if you acquire Capela you gotta send out Nurk in a separate deal to acquire one more wing/scorer. Either way, this team has too much redundancy paired with a glaring weakness (defensive minded 3-4) for the roster to be a finished product. I’d be surprised if we didn’t move one of Beal, Allen, Nurk by the trade deadline.
Agreed that Nurkic and Capela are not a great pairing at the 5 spot, but also, beggars can’t be choosers. Naturally I’d far prefer Okongwu over Capela but the hawks would be crazy to send out Okongwu on that contract.

I’d trade Nurkic for someone who can play the 3/4 and shoot reasonably well and defend today, with or without Capela, but honestly who’s on the market for a guy like him? And who’s going to just help the Suns?

A Beal trade would make a lot of sense. I think he may actually want to leave because his usage is going to be at a career low.
Go Suns!

I had Jones in fantasy basketball last year so watched him fairly closely (and Washington more than I cared too!)
Part of the reason he has such a good assist/turnover ratio is that he doesn’t make many risky, aggressive passes - just makes the simple pass to someone in good position. He also is ok off ball as a spot up three point shooter, and doesn’t need the ball all the time to be effective.
On paper - and exposed form - he’s a super fit for this team. He’s also a sneak source of steals. It was hard to tell on that Washington team if he or anyone was a great defender but it’s a decent start.

He’s probably too small to be a great defender but he’s not a net negative that needs to be protected during the regular season. Super happy with this signing. If someone said we managed to trade Eric Gordon for him at any point during the last 10 months we’d all think James Jones turned into Sam Presti.

Should get bonus points for the second apron handicap.

Frist off, as for the Beal trade conjecture - Beal isn't going anywhere that he doesn't want to go to. Maybe being the 6th man might sour him on player here, maybe not. But trading him will not be easy because he's overpaid and has that no-trade clause.

Their best bet for a impactful trade would be to wait until December and then look at dealing Okogie or O'Neale for a PF.

I don't think a Beal trade is likely given his contract and salary relative to his production. We would have to bribe the receiving team with our rare and precious 1st round picks. More likely we just have to find an optimal way to play all these guys together and make it work. Beal can be a super useful player for us if we use him right.

I also think (knocks on wood) that we may see some injuries this year, and in that case Beal can be ready to step in and help offset the lost scoring of a Book or KD if they have to miss some games.

IMO as a general rule I think NBA players and teams are way too focused on who is in the starting lineup of an NBA team. I think teams should do way WAY more to try to figure out how to exploit the windows in the game when the opponent's bench players are on the court. Things like intentionally saving one of their best offensive players (e.g. Beal) to specifically play during those minutes so he can carve up bench players who can't guard him. In a role like that Beal could be an absolutely nasty weapon, basically overqualified for his job and beating up on scrubs every night to get great numbers and 6MotY consideration.

Great trade. Better team balance. Much better ball retention. Less iso ball. More Round pegs in round holes.

We went into this off season looking to fix the point issue both starting and back up and some defensive muscle l, particularly at the 4.

Point guard positions taken care of. From zero to two very competent players in that position is a massive A+.

The defensive 4 ‘may’ have been sorted and I think we got the best defensive big available. It’s a wait and see if he breaks the rotation at all when up against real NBA players in training.

I don’t think they trade Nurk but at this point nothing surprises me with this front office.
What we do in life, echoes in eternity.

I don’t understand the trip people have over Book playing the 3 when he is bigger than Grayson Allen already and a savvy defender. Beal, Book, and KD will hit open shots all day. Yall forget how lights out the Suns were with JJ and QRich with Nash? This offense is gonna set up its defense in much better position without giving up all the turnovers and taking bad shots. Teams are going to have to take the ball out from now on.
There may be times the Suns will struggle with size, they’ll have to figure it out.

Essentially this signing rejuvenated my excitement and I'm back to having hope for this team. Totally changes the dynamic of the roster. Just sad we won't have his bird rights so it's almost a guarantee he'll be a one year rental
