Nate Silver is fine. I wouldn't read too much into this. I hate how ABC emasculated 538 btw.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Tue Aug 20, 2024 2:58 amI like Nate's stats and models, but when he tries to be a pundit he seems to be increasingly going for outlandish conspiracy theories and wacky ideas. I read that he doesn't work for his 538 any more but rather for rich conservative tech investor Peter Thiel.

Re: Social media
538 was a great site in its heyday. But I think they jumped the shark when they got bought and started having Nate Silver do TV hits on Sunday ABC shows and such things. I loved their site, their liveblogs of major political events, and their podcasts. They were great in the 2016 election season and part of the Trump presidency. But now I really don't pay much attention to any of it.
Re: Social media
after posting that I realized how stupid I am for that post... of course she's given a platform on "X".
Re: Social media
FYI, a list of investors in Musk's "X" platform.

The Saudi’s are buying everything that isn’t tied down.

Re: Social media
Wow. I bet the tech workers at Twitter/X are pissed off about this.
Re: Social media
Why do people like Musk and Vance care so much about childless women? Presumably it is basically them being racist and wanting white women to have more kids to stop the brownification of the US population or something? Or maybe sexist, wanting women to just have babies and serve their men?
Re: Social media
It’s true. A lot more people are skipping marriage, kids and religion and just buying a cat.

Re: Social media
You can have kids and a cat, I have 2 of both. *Shrugs*
Re: Social media
The article Elon shares above is obviously some gross troll article. Look at the pictures of the women they use. It's some IG model-looking girls, and then an obese woman in an unflattering pose.

FYI, the founder and CEO of encrypted messaging platform Telegram, Pavel Durov, was arrested in France on multiple charges. I have read that Telegram is an app that is heavily used by Russia to send protected encrypted messages.
Re: Social media
Free speech absolutism! But if you write "cisgender" in a post, it will be warned and deranked by the algorithm.
Re: Social media
Twitter's censorship and political bias are becoming concerning to me. Musk seems to be directing the platform to boost conservative / GOP content and throttle or block other content. They allow you to openly praise Adolf Hitler, but you can't say "cisgender." And a story by NPR about Trump inappropriately doing a photo/video shoot at Arlington Cemetery is leading to a full-page warning message when people click on it. Is this the future of Twitter? Barf.

Brazil bans Twitter/X for refusing to comply with court orders.
Re: Social media
How can you be such a successful billionaire businessman and then also believe absolutely moronic batshit 4chan stuff like that?
Re: Social media
Because he sees himself as the high T man that can think freely…or he is anuerotypical and can think freely. His success in business probably confirms his ideaology in his mind.
