All I know about the hostages being released on the day Reagan took office is that they were released on the day Reagan took office. I just assumed that they did that just to spite Cater. I haven’t heard anything about Reagan doing any secret negotiations with the Iranians. If I was President and wanted the credit for getting the hostages released, it would look better if I was in office for a little while first. That way it looks like I did some negotiation and got them released. Them releasing the hostages on the day he took office shows me that Reagan either had no time to do any negotiations with Iran yet or they talked before the election. If someone knows anything more please post it.
I remember that well. It was the first time I was old enough to vote and proudly placed my vote for Jimmy Carter. I remember the hostages and the daily "Day #*** Hostages" reports. I was really pissed when Reagan won and even more so when the hostages got released on inauguration day, not for the hostages but for what seemed obvious at the time that he had worked in the background to delay it. Of course it could be that Iran feared Reagan and were planning on releasing them anyways but were willing to orchestrate it according to his wishes because they feared him. And they did have reason to fear him based on his actions later in his term. Of course we will never really know what happened due to "national security" reasons (a euphemism for "you're too dumb to understand and also we can do whatever the hell we want and don't need to explain to you"). But basically the consensus at the time is that there was some back door deal that went on.

I don't really get what Trump and RFK have in common that would cause RFK to want to join forces with Trump. RFK came up as an environmental lawyer for Pete's sake. Trump basically wants to burn the planet to the ground and shut down all the Dems' climate work. Joining with Trump seems to be a clear case of just wanting power over principles, over all else.
I haven't been around since the Trump assassination attempt due to personal work load. But I wanted to jump in here and make a few comments. Just know I love all you even if we disagree about a few political issues.

As far as understanding RFK's reasons all you have to do is listen to his press conference saying he was dropping out and also to the part of Trump's rally in Glendale later that day where he introduces RFK and they both explained the reasons. And I'm not talking about a few clips or some talking head's interpretation of it. If you actually listen to them they explain it pretty clearly. RFK gave a history of his journey and challenges and at one point literally had tears running down his cheeks.

Edit: I found the speeches

Looks like Harris and Trump both got a bump from RFK dropping out.

Hmm. If I recall correctly, though, wasn’t it Biden’s team who negotiated the terms of the first debate with CNN, and they were surprised Trump agreed to the terms?

Biden then complained that he could still hear Trump talking when his mic was muted, so I wonder if this is a sneaky ploy by Harris to make sure she isn’t forced to talk while Trump is talking, like Biden had to do. Lol.

Why do they want the mics on the whole time? Isn't that an invitation for Trump to interrupt and talk over Kamala? What's the thinking here? I thought it was actually a good thing that they let each person speak uninterrupted during "their" time.

Well according to what Bone posted, the thinking is Trump won’t be able to stop himself from saying something that will hurt him.

Tulsi Gabbard endorses Trump for President. How she can call herself a Democrat and then endorse that guy is beyond me, but have fun with that.

I am pretty sure bone is right. The question is leave the mic on or not. Trump talking over Harris’s during her time is something I think should not be tolerated and is annoying. Turn the mic off when his time is done or have a moderator that will get in Trumps face when he tries to talk over her. Start her time over and deduct those seconds from Trumps next time. Too complicated. Just push the mute button when it’s time.

I think I just read where he now was not going to debate. He’s all over the map now. His stance on everything is up for debate now.

I don’t consider Tusli a Dem. Maybe she used to be a Dem. Trump used to be a Dem. The Clintons were guests at his wedding.

But they aren’t uninterrupted. Biden said he could still hear Trump talking even when his mic was muted, which made it difficult for him to concentrate on his answers.

You probably don't mean anything by it. But I always think it's a tell when somebody calls it the "Democrat party."

I just don't get how he can say things like this and still be electable. He is literally pledging to break our NATO treaty obligations to our allies. This should be a huge outrage and scandal.
