Suns Trade Nurkic
Re: Suns Trade Nurkic
I wish it got cancelled…I would rather have that 1st back. This is looking more and more like a straight salary dump with no other benefits. We better get under the 2nd apron next year or it makes zero sense…and I’m not sure what our plan is to do that…gonna have to cut about 10-12 million in salary…guess that could be a KD trade…or Beal.

Well, that trade is supposedly going to save them $130 million over the next couple of years, so I can't fault them too much.Split T wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 12:57 pmI wish it got cancelled…I would rather have that 1st back. Re: Suns Trade Nurkic
I get it, but I want to see a basketball benefit…at the very least we need to get under the 2nd apron so we open up more roster building options. The Bobster wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 1:16 pmWell, that trade is supposedly going to save them $130 million over the next couple of years, so I can't fault them too much.Split T wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 12:57 pmI wish it got cancelled…I would rather have that 1st back. I don't like giving away picks, but it sounds like this trade gets us out of the 2nd apron (if we cut the two new players Martin and Micic), which will actually help us a lot in terms of roster flexibility and trades this summer. So in that sense it does seem like it has a basketball benefit as opposed to being a straight cash savings / contract dump.Split T wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 12:57 pmI wish it got cancelled…I would rather have that 1st back. It doesn’t get us out of the 2nd apron though. It helps as we go from like 30 million over to 10 million over, but we still have more money cutting to do.Mori Chu wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 1:40 pmI don't like giving away picks, but it sounds like this trade gets us out of the 2nd apron (if we cut the two new players Martin and Micic), which will actually help us a lot in terms of roster flexibility and trades this summer. Re: Suns Trade Nurkic
How would a trade help if we have to bring back almost as much incoming salary? And if we waive a player it will still count for that season.Split T wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 12:57 pmI wish it got cancelled…I would rather have that 1st back. Re: Suns Trade Nurkic
You don’t have to bring back the same amount of salary. You can reduce salary as much as you want in a trade. Now the other team might have to include more salary, but in the offseason, teams have more cap space and can be more flexible.

Re: Suns Trade Nurkic
Both Martin and Micic have contracts that aren't guaranteed for next year. Trading for them is most likely with plans not to bring them back next year.JeremyG wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 2:38 pmHow would a trade help if we have to bring back almost as much incoming salary? Yes, I’m aware of that, I was mainly referring to waiving players we receive from a KD trade in the summer. The Bobster wrote: ↑Mon Feb 10, 2025 3:11 pmBoth Martin and Micic have contracts that aren't guaranteed for next year. Re: Suns Trade Nurkic
But how likely is it that KD would be willing to go to a team with significant cap space?

Re: Suns Trade Nurkic
Well even a team that’s just out of the aprons can take back 25% more. We could dump about 11 million in a trade with say Houston(if Houston declines the option in FVV). Reed Sheppard, Jabari Smith Jr and Dillon Brooks are like 43-44 million next year and KD is 54…that would be the trade salary wise…or Jalen Green and one of those younger guys.
