Espo is leaving Suns.com. I know there are not many Espo fans around here, but he was a good dude even if his sense of humor was as bland as vanilla ice cream. http://www.nba.com/suns/suns-retorter-so-long-now

That is not based upon present value, but perceived future value.Mori Chu wrote:You guys are crazy if you would not trade Booker for Kawhi Leonard or Klay Thompson. Book has been awesome as a rookie, but Kawhi is the 2nd place MVP this season, and Klay is one of the best shooters in the NBA already. Serious overvaluing of our own assets in this thread.

Here is an ESPN ranking of trade value from February.

I'll admit I was off on Carmelo, I overvalued how much value he has left, but there is some insanity going on in this thread in regards to Booker's value, current and perceived future.
Edit: Just realized this is an insider article. Anyways they rank Booker 33rd.

I don't see Klay getting much better than he is right now, and he is going to need a huge payday soon.Mori Chu wrote:You guys are crazy if you would not trade Booker for Kawhi Leonard or Klay Thompson. I think I've explained myself rather coherently. Kawhi would leave after the third season. We'd have to put together a contender very quickly for that trade to make any sense.Mori Chu wrote:You guys are crazy if you would not trade Booker for Kawhi Leonard or Klay Thompson. The explanation is coherent, we just don't agree with the reasoning. Kawhi is a top 5 player in his prime. 3 years is a long time, plenty of time to build around Kawhi. Booker won't ever be as good as Kawhi.OE32 wrote:I think I've explained myself rather coherently. Kawhi would leave after the third season. Is this a guarantee or opinion? And based upon Booker's ceiling and shortcomings at his elder 19 years of age? I think Kawhi is a great player but I think you have some sort of infatuation with him based on how strongly you attest to an assertion that Booker could be a better player in the future.Split T wrote:The explanation is coherent, we just don't agree with the reasoning. What is smallball? I play basketball. I'm not a regular big man. I can switch from the center to the guards. The game is evolving. I'd be dominAyton if the WNBA would let me in. - Ayton

It's an opinion. Do you see Booker becoming a top 5 player and legitimate MVP candidate in his career? I hope he does, but I don't think he will.

Fair. Leonard is the best defender in the league and puts up a continually impressive overall statline. My Suns fandom wants so badly for a return to competitive form and I tend to rest my hopes on the few positives on our roster with Booker being the largest hope we've seen all season. I don't think he'll be able to take over a game in all aspects like Leonard but I definitely think he can be a star player someday if he continues to improve.Split T wrote:It's an opinion. Look, I love Kawhi, but I think that had the Suns drafted him, he'd be borderline all-star rather than borderline MVP. You think 3 years is a long time; I don't think it's enough. Booker/Len/Warren/Mr. 2016 is a homegrown core locked into long-term contracts. And I think it's easier to continue to grab pieces through the draft than it is to grab a sufficient amount of star power in free agency and trade to turn this team into a contender. You can only do that if your window projects sufficiently forward, as ours currently does. The first piece of that core to hit UFA will be Len in 2021. And I suspect he likes it here.Split T wrote:The explanation is coherent, we just don't agree with the reasoning. I'm not saying Kawhi isn't worth Booker. I'm saying it wouldn't make sense for us. You say he won't be a top 5 player in this league, but I'm pretty convinced as of right now that he will be the league's best shooting guard in the near future. And I'm damn near positive he will be better than Klay Thompson.
Re: Suns News: Week 20 3/7-3/13
You can't say that you wouldn't trade Booker for Kawhi because Kawhi would leave here when his contract was up. The fantasy here is about which player you'd want to spend their career on the Suns. If you're going to say that Kawhi would just leave, then why wouldn't Booker just leave, too?

Eight. Years. Under. Contract.Mori Chu wrote:You can't say that you wouldn't trade Booker for Kawhi because Kawhi would leave here when his contract was up. I'm not fantasizing. You can fantasize all you want. Trade Len for Curry, Booker for Kawhi, whatever.
Re: Suns News: Week 20 3/7-3/13
Yeah my point was that you don't have to worry if their contracts don't match up.
But Booker is not under contract for 8 years. He could play out his contract and leave.

Re: Suns News: Week 20 3/7-3/13
And I would absolutely trade him for Leonard but not Klay.
Re: Suns News: Week 20 3/7-3/13
Well, he'll be a RFA after four, so assuming he signs another four-year contract after his rookie contract and we're willing to match any offer, we can hold him for eight years.Indy wrote:Yeah my point was that you don't have to worry if their contracts don't match up.

Yes IF he decides to let us. He doesn't have to.Cap wrote:Well, he'll be a RFA after four, so assuming he signs another four-year contract after his rookie contract and we're willing to match any offer, we can hold him for eight years.Indy wrote:Yeah my point was that you don't have to worry if their contracts don't match up.
